Learning Profiles

I learn best when..... the teacher shows me visuals such as diagrams, pictures, videos. An example of this is when in math if some body tells me to do -12+5 in my head, then I will take a longer time to find the answer. But if it is written on a piece of paper I will be able to find the answer faster.

I need to ..... read alot more books. One reason why is because reading is important in alot of ways. Reading can improve my writing skills that I lack of. It can also improve my spelling. Another reason why reading is very important is that it can also improve my oral skills in English.

The strategies that would help me in my learning...... is to focus 100% in class and to concentrate when doing my homework. Another strategy is to ask the teacher any questions if I do not understand something this is important because it can help me understand anything I do not know.

I would like my teachers to know this about me.....is that I am focused in class but I can get easily distracted by a friend. moving me to sit away from my friend can help me learn better sometimes. So if you feel like I am not concentrating in class, I wouldn't mind if you moved my seat.

New Year's Blogpost

Setting New Year resolutions can help make this year 2011 be the best and most unique year for me. Lets start of with my first New Year's resolution. What I aim for is to give my 100% in every thing I do. From studies to sports but for now I have to focus on my studies more. I hope to get the year started with good spirit and good grades.

Now for the second New Year's resolution. For this year my goal is to improve my writing skills as they are very weak right now. How I can accomplish that gaol is by reading alot of books of all kinds. That is what I lack to do. I can accomplish this goal by following the first goal. Hopefully I can complete my mission and make this year the best.

Over my Christmas break I went back home to New Delhi. I was very excited  because on the weather forecast it showed that the weather was about 7 degrees min. I was sad for my sister because she had to get a knee surgery. In Delhi I visited all my cousins every evening we went out to play in the breeze to feel the chilly wind and have fun with freinds I had alot of fun during this trip and can't wait to go back for another visit.

One talent that I posses is basketball. Basketball is my favourite sport and everyday I dream about playing in the NBA with Yao Ming and Kobe Bryant. Basketball is a very fun game and I like it because you have to work as a team and communicate effectively. I only started playing this game in 5th grade  and I was just good at it.

Literature Circle Reflection

1. How your groups discussion helped you better understand the novel. Write about of some of the key ideas from the novel that your group discussed and how these were important to the plot of the story.

Yes, I think the discussion in my group helped me understand the novel which I am reading better. One person in my group brought up some thing which I did not notice at all. Brain thinks about his parents divorce 24, 7 this can create a big impact on his survival because all he thinks about is this he wont be able to focus on any thing else so this is an good and important point my group brought up.

2. Describe some of the connections that you made during your discussion.

While we were disscing I did not make any connection I wrote them done on the lit. circle. Instead I was telling people if I agree with their question or not and also give them some feed back on how they can make it better.

3. What predictions do you have for the rest of the novel.

Some predictions that I have want make for the book which I am reading is that. Brain will face some challenges in the forest but he will overcome his fear and live. Another prediction I want to make is hopefully Brains parents are together again. that will make Brain fell alot better.

Symmetry in KL

I took picture of a decorative plate. It has a total of 4 lines of symmetry. Two lines of symmetry are the diagonal lines joining the corners. The other 2 are the horizontal and vertical lines passing through the centre of the plate.

I took this picture of a wooden bowl. This object has tree lines of symmetry. Two of these are the horizontal and vertical lines passing through the centre. The third is the line joining the two corners. In all 3 cases you have to rotate one part by 180 degrees to overlap the two parts and create symmetry.

Marvelous Muddy Mangrove Planting

"Ah! I am tired", I mumbled to my friends. It was a 4km walk to where we were going to plant the mangrove saplings. The path we took was full of long tail macaques. They gave me the creeps! I thought they were going to attack me. My solution to this problem was to avoid them by walking straight looking only in front and not at them.

Soon we arrived at the swamp where we were going to plant our mangrove saplings. The swamp was full of mud skippers and crabs. Next, we put on our huge black mud boots. Then two men showed us how to plant a mangrove sapling. The moment I stepped into the mud my feet sank in the mud and I could not move them at all. As a result I could not balance and was very unstable, hence landing  on my back right in the slushy mud. I was the first person to fall in the mud and I felt very wet and dirty. Every body was full of  mud making us all look like chocolate monsters.

After every body planted their sapling we headed back to the hostel. A grueling walk back later we reached our hostel and were hosed by Mr.Sheflin to take off most off the dirt.

Conquering Mount. Kota Kinabalu

One courageous thing that I have done in my life was climbing Mount Kinabalu which  stands 4,095 metres (13,435 ft) high. It is the highest mountain in South East Asia. First when my dad asked me whether I wanted to climb Mount Kinabalu, I said "Dad, are you joking with me.  I can't climb Mount Kinabalu!". The next day I saw my dad training with four others friends and I thought maybe I can do this. So,  for the next few months I was constantly training everyday.

We took a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu. There we  met  up with our guide, who took us to the hotel where we were going to stay the night. Next day we started climbing and I was really scared! I thought I was going to be very tired and would not be able to make it more than half way. But when I reached the halfway point I had got the hang of it. After hiking 8km we broke our journey at Laban Rata camp which was 6km short of the summit.   We woke up in the middle of the night and  started climbing at 2.30 in the morning so that we could see the sunrise at the summit. It was so dark that we couldn't see anything. The only light source  we had was our headlights. At that time I was a bit nervous because I thought I was going to fall off the edge. I told myself that I couldn't give up after coming so far and this helped me to conquer my fear.  It was very cold and windy ,we were over the clouds. Once we reached the summit my dad helped me put India's flag. It felt like I conquered the world. My ultimate goal is to climb Mount Kinabalu again. Also in 2 more years I want to climb Mount Kilamanjaro in Kenya which is 1000meters higher.

How did early humans use art to express their prehistoric culture?

The early human expressed themselves and their culture by drawing and painting on walls. They mostly expressed them selves through art. That was one of the only ways to express themselves because they did not have a language. They were really good at art. The different types of arts they used to express themselves was sculpting, painting and drawing on walls.

One thing that I noticed about early humans paintings was that they drew and painted a lot of animals. Some of the animals that the early humans painted were bison, horse, deer, cow and bull. The others thing they painted were  bullseye, geometric shapes, hand prints of young and adults to show that this is some ones cave and  it show the hand prints of the people how lived there. They also painted wavy lines and alot of geometric shapes. The sculptures might represent how lived there or a clan marking.

The early humans are maybe trying to tell a story about what was happening everyday or when they went out for hunting. Some think geometric shapes had special meanings in rituals.
